Celebrating the 2024 Kane County Educator of the Year, Winners & NomineesCelebrando al Educador del Año 2024 del Condado de Kane, Ganadores y Nominados.

Amidst a record-setting pool of 57 nominees, Cynthia Martinez of Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy was named the 2024 Educator of the Year. Ms. Martinez, a middle school teacher at Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy for East Aurora District 131, accepted the award among friends, family, and colleagues as she spoke about her profound dedication to her students and community.

“I’m able to teach in the community I was born and raised in. I grew up in Aurora and see myself in my (students),” Martinez told the Kane County ROE in an interview for the event. “I feel invested in being able to teach here. I want to engage them in ideas like problem-solving and how they see the world so they can understand not only their civic duties and responsibilities, but also their civic rights. How can they use education to empower their community and make a plan of action for change, whatever they feel that change may be?”

Colleagues and loved ones sent messages of appreciation and encouragement for the recipient throughout the weekend. Among those was State Representative Barbara Hernandez (D-IL), who shared that she learned under Martinez as a seventh grade student years ago.

That same night, Annette McMahon, Oak Park Elementary School Principal, was named School Administrator of the Year. When she returned to her school on Monday, staff and students surprised her and congratulated her for this recognition . In addition to presentations for the winners and our seven nominees, the East Aurora High School NJROTC commenced the event proceedings with a dignified presentation of the color guard.

En medio de un grupo récord de 57 nominados, Cynthia Martínez de Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy fue nombrada Educadora del Año 2024. La Sra. Martínez, maestra de secundaria en Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy para el Distrito 131 de East Aurora, aceptó el premio entre amigos, familiares y colegas mientras hablaba sobre su profunda dedicación a sus estudiantes y a la comunidad.

“Puedo enseñar en la comunidad en la que nací y crecí. Crecí en Aurora y me veo en mis (estudiantes)”, dijo Martínez al ROE del condado de Kane en una entrevista para el evento. “Me siento involucrado en poder enseñar aquí. Quiero involucrarlos en ideas como la resolución de problemas y cómo ven el mundo para que puedan comprender no sólo sus deberes y responsabilidades cívicos, sino también sus derechos cívicos. ¿Cómo pueden utilizar la educación para empoderar a su comunidad y elaborar un plan de acción para el cambio, cualquiera que sea su opinión?

Colegas y seres queridos enviaron mensajes de agradecimiento y aliento al destinatario durante todo el fin de semana. Entre ellos se encontraba la Representante Estatal Bárbara Hernández (D-IL), quien compartió que aprendió con Martínez cuando era estudiante de séptimo grado hace años.

Esa misma noche, Annette McMahon, directora de la escuela primaria Oak Park, fue nombrada Administradora escolar del año. Cuando regresó a su escuela el lunes, el personal y los estudiantes la sorprendieron y la felicitaron por este reconocimiento. Además de las presentaciones de los ganadores y nuestros siete nominados, el NJROTC de East Aurora High School comenzó el evento con una presentación digna de la escolta.
