About Our School
Vision: Provide Academic Excellence and a Socially Responsible teaching community for all students.
C. F. Simmons Middle School was named after East Aurora School Board member Clifton F. Simmons. Our school originally opened in 1961 as a junior high building. Mr. Simmons served for 20 years on the school board during the 1940s and ‘50s. For ten of those years he was board president. A graduate of East Aurora High School, Simmons played quarterback for East’s 1918 lightweight and 1919 heavyweight teams. He earned All-State honors in his senior season. Simmons was one of the founders of the East High Football Old Timers’ Association. Today, Simmons Middle School, home of the Panthers, boasts an enrollment number of just over 1,000 students.
Academic Offerings
To prepare our middle school students for success in high school, college /career readiness and beyond, we focus on the following academic core requirements, with some available at regular and honors levels:
- Math: pre-algebra, algebra, geometry
- Science: New Generation Science Standards (NGSS) earth science, chemistry, and biology
- English Language Arts: reading comprehension, fluency, literature and writing
- Social studies: ancient history, world studies and U.S. history
- Foreign languages: Spanish
- Visual arts: art history, ceramics, painting and drawing
- Performing arts: music, choir, guitar, drama, and band
- Physical education: team and individual sports, personal fitness and health topics
- Reading Intervention: English 3D, Read Alive (provide assistance to at-risk struggling readers)
- Math Intervention: Math 180 (provide assistance to at-risk struggling math students)
Mission
The Staff of Simmons Middle School will promote a positive environment for the academic, social, physical, and emotional development of each and every student. We, as the staff will set high and realistic academic goals for every student, and will, through efforts between home and school, achieve these expectations.
